There are mainly two methods, i.e. lime chlorination process and caustic soda – lime chlorination process. The first method involves use of lime and chlorine gas as raw materials, and chlorination of chlorine gas with lime milk to produce calcium hypochlorite. The reaction formula is
8Ca(OH)2+6Cl2 → 3Ca(ClO)2·2Ca(OH)2+3CaCl2+6H2O
, and the slurry-shape substance generated during the reaction is subjected to separation, dehydration and drying to obtain the finished product – calcium hypochlorite, whose available chlorine content is 60 ~ 65%.
The second method is commonly known as sodium process, and involves use of lime, caustic soda and chlorine gas as raw materials and chlorination of these materials to obtain the finished product. It is consisted of one-step chlorination process and two-step chlorination process.
